It was a warm summer night
in Harlem, and as I walked down Lenox Avenue ,I was caught off guard
By the most beautiful vision
Of perfect walking towards me
And as I cautiously stopped her
In her quickened pace,
I asked her if tomorrow
was a treasure chest of love
Would you be prepared to
Open it ?
and as she smile we walked past
The CottonClub
and Lenox Lounge
On our way to Minton's Playhouse
I could see she liked me
so she asked me
How does she know
My intentions are true?
I simply said
The Next time you hold me
I need you to tell me
Your fears
Let me find solutions
To those things that
Keep you up late at night
That doesn't disturb your honor
As I would like to be
Your dark knight in shining armor
Let's take 10 paces
Backwards in your past
So we can see
The wrong steps
And side step those
Paces with forward promises
That march in line with your blessings
Those things what we're
Promised to you before birth
that you haven't unearthed
And let's sing
The praises of
Your future possibilities
With hyms of thank you
Those chorus notes
That may sound like hums
But are the mere heartbeat
Palpitations that are
Steady enough to give
You hope that we will make
It past anything
And maybe not together
But definitely forever
Show me the right way
To cradle
The endless possibilities
Of your greatness while
Shevling wreckless
wants and desires
To be the people
We both
Want and will admire
Trust me to the point
That even my mistakes
Come out great
Because of the lessons learned
And you yearn
for the perfect version
Of imperfections in this
Manly flesh that wants
To immerse himself
In all of those things
That causes you to
Take a step back
Before you decide
To go all in
Because when you do
And your comfortable
I will be on the other side
Holding the crown
That only belongs to you
and like that fairy tale
Glass slipper that
Fits only you
As we step into
The possibility of infinity
The dark knight
And
The Queen of forever
Hands clenched together
Tight enough to feel
Each others pulse
Embracing
Our tomorrow
As one.
Because
I love the way you love
How I love the way
This love was
that love
And that has become
Our love... of each other
Like we love Harlem
One love
Now
Allow me to open
That door for you,
I'm famished,
and the band is
On fire let's go!
