Black Nationalism Month?.

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

With Black History month coming to a close. Time of reflection is needed. What happened to Black nationalism?. Being a child of the seventies growing up in Both Crown Heights and Harlem. Black Nationalism was every where. Young Black Americans were leading the “Im Black And I am Proud” movement. Black Artists sung about better times and there pride in being Black. There were grass root organizarions in almost every community in inner cities where the black population were high. Many of those cities governments neglected our neighborhoods. So we were forced to take matters into our own hands . The beautification of abandon lots, the rehabilitation of abandoned buildings, Block parties. Black owned businesses were present. You knew your Neighbors. Once The Eighties came and It all began to deteriorat. Our Black heroes became drug addicts and Drug dealers. Many turned to drugs because of the constant harassment of the United States Government and Local police. Which leads me to talk about Ms. Afeni Shakur the mother of Tupac Shakur. As a Young adult Ms Shakur was a member of The Black Panther Party. She wrote the Panther News Letter “The Panther Post”. A Staunch Black Nationalist Ms. Shakur mentored other young Adults within the Black panther Party Harlem Chapter. Ms. Shakur was arrested with other members of the Harlem Chapter of the Black Panther Party and charged with conspiring to place bombs across the city. Ms. Shakur chose to represent herself in court, pregnant while on trial and facing a 300-year prison sentence and had no law degree. Ms.Shakur interviewed witnesses and argued in court.[She and the others in the "Panther 21" were acquitted in May 1971 after an eight-month trial. Altogether, Afeni Shakur spent two years in jail before being acquitted. Her son, Lesane Parish Crooks, was born on June 16, 1971. The following year, in 1972, Lesane Parish was renamed Tupac Amaru Shakur, which means "shining serpent" in Inca.

Today Black Nationalism is considered a Bad word. The anthem “I am Black and I am Proud” has died. Replaced with this new Gangster mentality. “Pride” has be been changed to represent another segment of society. Black history Month should be A celebration of Black Nationalism, but instead it has become a passing thought, a commercial opportunity to make more money off the Highest number of consumers in America.

could you imagine if Black America. We’re truly Nationalistic about their history. And utilized Technology to further the enhancement of the Black experience In America?.
