Dear Black Man
I’ve been conflicted lately. Watching you go down by the hands of white supremacy has me vexed, I’m hurt , and ready to throw my body down if front of yours, just to make sure you live to see another day. Tears flowing, heart racing, and fist held tightly in the air. Let our Kings live!!! Black Lives Matter!
Sudden thoughts plague my mind and have me paralyzed. I’m struggling because in that same breath, Black Lives Matter! Stop killing us, or even more so, our black men. That same notetiarty goes unsung for black women ... RIP Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor and to the other countless black women who’s lives were taken, but went unnoticed.
Dear Black Man: I’m struggling because I’ve really never felt protected by you. Daddy left, but momma moved on, only to meet another hand, and fist. Innocence lost at an early age .... Molested.... Black man.... Generational curses seemed to be my shadow...... beaten, dismissed, cheated on, and lied to. Fuck.... even watched female friends, and family conquer these same war wounds.
In the end we still held our heads high, defend the Gods and warriors that you are. Still willing to take a bullet ,spit in my eye. Because to us you matter. However I’ve yet to experience your love, grace and security.
DearBlack men I’m conflicted, you left your queens in the battle, and now you feel like a complete shadow.
Yours Truly
Savannah Rose
