HBCU ~ HOMECOMING!

ree

We left home

Never knowing if

we would graduate

Ever make it

Out on time

Now coming back

to the campus

we loved

Looking to go

back in time

Looking for old friends

Frat, or soror

Line sisters & brother

This was the best time

Of our lives, because

It taught us how to look out

For one another

If history has taught us

Anything

Is that while here

We accomplished many things

Thats started out as dreams

And ended up as anything

With a stamp of approval and a

Degree received.

Mission accomplished.

We shared sacred

Secrets and held true

To the most devine

Principle of family

and friends

To no end

We lowered our guards

And allowed vulnerability

To view our deepest shallow

Moments we held in

A protective guarded cocoon

As we became

Classmates who were

Roommates who became

Family

This is were

magnificent

HBCU

butterflies bloomed

But the difference

Between any other school

And an HBCU

Is that at this time every

Year I yearn for the view

Of LU

I needed to feed my soul

And see each and

everyone of you

Because then

am whole

Again

And more than that...

I am home

Again

You see

I dont come

To homecoming

to talk about

Whose passed

We can do that at night

But more than anything

Thats every been

brought to light

I've learned

that it shouldn't

Take death to

appreciate life

So if we

Do anything

with our pedigrees

With all these degrees

Before the

Promises and guarantees

Is to donate something

Unilaterally

To this university

SO THAT

THE 1ST ONE LIVES ON

Just to make sure that

The next generation

Of Black College Grads

Have clean shoulders

To stand on.

As I stand at the gates

And say

I miss this place

again...

I...Am...HOME
