Me and Mrs. Jones, We got a thing goin'on

In today’s current events, some major news was overlooked. In Ferguson Missouri a major first was accomplished. The town of Ferguson elected its first Black mayor, and it is a Black woman. On June 3 2020 The Honorable Ella Jones was elected with 54% of the vote. Mrs Ella Jones 65 years old in 2015 became the first Black woman elected to the city council. After the Mike Brown uprising in the town of Ferguson. Ferguson became known because of the racial disparities in its local government. Blacks made up 67% of the population with white 29%. In a town of 20,730 people. The Black population was not represented in Politics. All political offices were all white. The police force was 96% white, 2% Black. Blacks made up 97% of all arrests and Tickets written. These disparages and protests prompted the Justice Department to launch a investigation. The findings of the investigation resulted in a consent agreement reached in 2016 that requires significant changes in Ferguson, including municipal court reforms, community policing efforts, hiring more minority officers, and improved policies in areas such as use of body cameras and search and seizure practices. motivated By findings Mrs Ella James became the first black woman elected to the city council. In 2017 Mrs Ella Jones ran against incumbent Mayor James Knowledge III And lost. Fast forward to this Year the incumbent James Knowles could not run because of term limits. Mrs Ella Jones won with 54% percent of the vote.

whats surprising is that the news of Mrs Jones victory is not celebrates every where. Every major city in America has had protest for BLM. The catalyst is the assassination of Mr. George Floyd. Mr. Floyd who died while handcuffed while a police office knelled on his neck for 8 minutes and 54 seconds. Ignoring Mr Floyd's plea for help. “I can’t breathe” from a weekend Mr Floyd.

2014 I can remember thinking that “Ferguson will be the start of a new Black movement”. I thought that A city where there a majority Black population but none of its political representatives were black.

Now after Mike Brown protest there will be a movement, where young Black intelligent men or women would take the mantle and run for all political Offices in Ferguson and winning. This would be the blueprint for other cities with high African American population but low representation in city government. Six years later I lament that with protests in every city No one has mention this great woman accomplishment. we are now shouting BLM, we want to Defund the police, we want equal rights for Black transsexuals etc etc.. meanwhile Mrs Ella Jones has done something no other Black person has done in the city of Ferguson. She actually ran and won.

Mrs Jones is Doing it. While most talk about it. Ferguson may very well be the start of a Black movement..
