Unapologetically Black

Updated: Sep 16, 2019

“Black Consciousness is an attitude of the mind and a way of life, the most positive call to emanate from the black world for a long time.”*

-Steven Bantu Biko

I love this quote because it a reminder that being Black and being Conscious are not always synonymous. (And It comes from one of my heroes , the Father of The Black Conscious Movement , Steven Bantu Biko.) We have a lot of melanated beings who , with all their might, will renounce their Black Card for the purpose of upward mobility or just for ease of assimilation. Then, there are those of us who will embrace our title of Black Man , Black Woman, Black Doctor, Black Teacher, etc. These titles have, and always will command respect within the community. We offer zero apology for loving our Blackness. We are changing he narrative.

With that said. Lets create a space that celebrates this reawakening/latest chronicle of Black Consciousness. Now that we are WOKE lets become AWARE of our roles in society and understand how we need to think and react to those ever evolving roles. How can this be done while loving our Black and Brown selves? How can we socially level up while being Unapologetically Black?

The blog will touch on current events, historical events, books; In general anything that brought me to pause and think will be shared. I will always have more questions than answers and as many opinions as I have facts. It all makes for a better dialogue, don’t you think?

Respectfully Yours,

-Giza
